Ever since I was a little boy, I was curious on how different objects worked, and was fascinated with building blocks, especially Legos. I would take anything I could get my hands on apart and try to put it back together with everything in working order. Now that I am older, I feel that the things that may have seemed complicated to me then are now actually simple. To me working with clay is similar to my childhood, the only difference is I begin my building with a lump of wet clay and create something that I can use in my home, whether it is a sculptural object with a light or water pump fixed to it or a bowl that I would eat out of. I like to incorporate light and other mechanical gadjets in my work because I feel that it ties my childhood with myself in a more mature stage in my life. The feeling I recieve from the reactions of people when they see a hand built object mixed with something in everyday life is fantastic. When it comes to making work people have told me that I put a lot of myself into the piece that I am creating. I really enjoy expressing myself through my art, there is something about it that is calming. The more experiences that I encounter aid in growing as an artist because those experiences show in my work. Much of my work is inspired by those expierences and it motivates me to create the work that I do. I have began noticing that hand built objects are starting to become irrelevanft in our world. Many people don't appreciate the natural resources our earth has to give us, they just use them.
When I draw, I really love to capture the object as it is. Photorealism is the style of drawing that I continually fall back on, even when I try to explore new ideas. There is something about portraiture that I really like. I have noticed that I am starting to become more comfortable now with using other materials to draw with like chalk pastel. The richness of the colors is amazing and gives me inspiration to use them to their potential. I feel that art is an escape for me that gives me a sense of relaxation. I rarely get frustrated with my work because I can always try to recreate the piece an another time.
